Happy Wednesday, Shit Givers.

Quinn’s away this week without a single bar of service, love that for him, so you all are stuck with me today.

Nothing says “Happy Birthday, America” quite like doing the work to keep democracy and equal rights for all alive, while also building healthier, safer, cleaner communities (at home and abroad), so here are some concrete steps to do just that.

— Willow

  • Donate: The US Supreme Court has upheld state laws restricting transgender youth from accessing healthcare. The Trans Youth Emergency Project is supporting families by helping them navigate their options for continuing care, providing travel grants, and building a network of families and providers (go)

  • Be Heard: If we want more electric vehicles on the road, we need to build the infrastructure to support it. Your local government can help. Use our script and resources to encourage them to build more EV charging stations in your community (go)

  • 🇦🇺 Bank: Move your money to a bank that funds things you care about, like affordable housing and clean energy, instead of fossil fuels with Bank Australia (go)

  • Be Heard: Charging homeless teens for IDs is ridiculous and nonsensical, since you need an ID to do things like apply for jobs and housing. Pennsylvania has a bill on the docket that would allow homeless youth to access free state ID’s and birth certificates. Let’s get it done. (go)

  • Donate: Foreign aid cuts are threatening critical life-saving programs all over the world. Project Resource Optimization is identifying urgent high-impact funding gaps to direct dollars where they are needed most. Let’s get as many people as we can on the lifeboat. (go)

  • Learn: You can directly mitigate the amount of pollutants contaminating water in your community by building a rain garden at home or work. The tutorials in the University of Connecticut Rain Garden App make it easy. (go)

Together With Bookshop

Want to read what the people working on the frontlines of the future are reading?

Every week, I ask our podcast guest, "What’s a book you’ve read this year that’s opened your mind to a topic you haven’t considered before, or that’s changed your thinking in some way?"

And every week, we add their picks to a list on Bookshop, where every purchase on the site financially supports independent bookstores.

  • Learn about meaningful careers. You’ll spend around 80,000 hours working in your lifetime. Make those hours count. (go)

  • Invest in climate solutions. Put your money where is matters, and invest in a safer, healthier, more just future. (go)

  • Donate to agriculture. Find agricultural programs to support that simultaneously improve food security, reduce emissions, reduce waste, reduce pollution, and grow healthier food. (go)

  • Organize for affordable housing: The housing crisis is bad for people, the environment, and the economy. (go)
