This photo was taken during the first lockdown (on 17. March 2020) in Munich, Germany due to the corona pandemic. I was seeing empty shelves in the supermarket, where once the toilet paper was piled up. The "German Angst" was symbolized by the hoarding of toilet paper. So when the toilet paper roll was finished I thought it would be uplifting/humorous to write "don't panic on the empty toilet roll". My title for it is "German Panic". This photo is my most successful photo in views and was featured in the Unsplash "COVID-19" compilation.

Despite 🏒 #99’s turn to the dark side, and in honor of 🇨🇦 Canada’s big election (thank you baby jesus), we’re featuring some stellar orgs from the land of maple syrup.

  • Learn: The Issue With Tissue is saying a big “no thank you” to companies flushing our forests and our future down the drain. Ancient forests are essential to the climate fight.

Check out which toilet paper makers are using climate-critical forests and which are making products with sustainable alternatives (go)

  • Donate or Volunteer: The Kamloops Food Bank diverts perfectly healthy food from the landfill, reducing food waste and using it to feed people in need. They also have programming that feeds hundreds of school kids over the weekend, and their Baby Bank makes sure families in need have access to formula, diapers, and more. (go)

  • Donate or Teach: We need more of, well, everything, but it never hurts to have more scientists — and science (unfortunately for me) starts with math. JUMP Math uses the latest science on how kid's brains learn best to help them learn math and thrive.

Use their educator resources or donate to more kids can receive a better education. (go)

  • Get Help: It’s housing all the way down, starting at the top this week. Local Housing Solutions is a one-stop housing policy platform with actionable tools to help cities develop, implement, and monitor local housing strategies. (go)

  • Learn: At this point, the EFF’s Border Search Pocket Guide is giving “Donate to disaster relief” a run for longest streak atop the leaderboards. Fun! (go)

  • Volunteer: MAPS believes in the power of psychedelics as a tool for healing the psyche, and they’ve got 35 years of clinical trial results to back it up.

Donate, volunteer, or just learn more about their mission of bringing mental healing to the masses. (go)

  • Volunteer for affordable housing. Spend your time taking the hammer to quite possibly the biggest fix of all. (go)

  • Volunteer for agriculture: There’s so many different ways to show up for more equitable and healthier food systems (go)

  • Learn about meaningful careers: If the news is any indication, there are a hell of a lot of Shit Givers looking for future-positive work (go)

  • Teach media literacy: Yeah, I mean, please do this (go)

Headed to NYC for a couple days to meet some other newsletter freaks like me, hope you have a safe weekend. Remember: it’s gonna be May!

Thank, as always, for giving a shit.
