WCID: Volunteer for the candidates who give a shit

What Can I Do? Weekly is a free weekly email that collects the most timely and trending actions from our app into one handy place. 84% of readers rate it “pretty pretty good” or “hell yes”. Manage the emails you get from us here.

Happy Wednesday, Shit Givers.

We’re keeping it short and sweet this week because a) as you know if you read last week’s newsletter, we’re absolutely slammed with recording this week and b) for US-based people, it’s crunch time. Elections are happening all over the country next week, and we need all hands on deck.

For everyone else: we still have a variety of global actions you can take this week!

Let’s go.

— Willow

US-folks, our ask for you this week is simple: volunteer for a candidate that supports the causes you care about in your district. That’s it.

There are hundreds of state and local elections (city councils, state legislatures, school boards, it all matters) happening all over the country in just under a week.

Find a candidate near you endorsed by Giffords or Emily’s List or Planned Parenthood or Everytown or Climate Cabinet or the Working Families Party or Run For Something or the League of Conservation Voters — these are just a few you can filter by in the app, take your pick — and then volunteer to support their campaign.

Just plug in your location and then sign up to volunteer.

Let’s Go

💝 Donate to increase education access for women and girls all over the world. It’s one of the most effective methods of reducing emissions, while giving them a path out of poverty. (go)

🙋 Volunteer to improve infrastructure in high-need areas worldwide. UN Volunteers deploys skilled professionals and puts them to work where their skills are most needed. (go)

📖 Learn about the simple prevention and treatment solutions we can use to solve diarrheal diseases (which kill millions every year, and are also the second leading killer of kids under 5) using resources from Defeat DD. (go)

🧑‍🏫 Teach about climate solutions using the free educator resources from the All We Can Save Project. Bring climate truth, courage, and solutions to the classroom. (go)

📈 Invest using ReGen’s sustainable investment model, which puts money into regenerating Earth’s natural capital, because they understand that our future is linked to the health of our soil, forests, and oceans. (go)

📚 Buy books for kids that can help you navigate teaching them about heavy topics like climate, health, technology, and science in general. (go)

🪙 Get funded through Co-Impact’s grantmaking program. Their locally-rooted programs build more just and equitable systems all over the world. (go)

📣 Be Heard about making global energy data more accessible to researchers so everyone, everywhere can make progress on climate change and improve energy security by contacting your Energy Minister. (go)

Busy as hell? Us too! You can save actions for later with an WCID To Do List!

Thank you — as always — for giving a shit.

— Willow
