Happy Wednesday, Shit Givers.

Sorry this is running late — and thanks to Willow for jumping in to save the day yet again when my childcare went awry six different ways.

Let’s go.

— Quinn (but mostly Willow)

  • Buy: After you’ve recycled your old electronic waste, buy it again in the form of Nimble’s power banks, cables, and more, all made from recycled and sustainable materials. We love a full circle moment. (go)

  • Donate: The Farmers of Color Land Trust knows that building a relationship with the land is the only way to preserve it for future generations. Protect the future of food and land sovereignty. (go)

  • Volunteer: Fight for the rights of LGBTQ+ residents across Georgia by helping Georgia Equality pass pro-equality legislation, elect fair-minded officials, conduct voter registration and educational activities, and more. (go)

Busy AF?

Us too.

It’s why we built a To Do List right into What Can I Do?

Because — yeah, look, we don’t need another To Do List, either — but we DO want to unfuck the world and we DON’T always have time to do it right now (#notrightnow).

So we built one that’s super easy to use, and super easy to find your way back to (when you’ve got time).

A nurse standing at the ready, wearing scrubs with a MedicAlert ID attached.
  • Learn: We need about a gazillion more nurses. Nurse.org provides resources for you to explore the pathways to becoming a nurse regardless of your educational background, goals, and priorities. (go)

  • Buy: Food waste accounts for about half of global emissions from the food system. You can keep food out of the landfill, using a Mill kitchen bin. It magically turns your leftovers into nutrient-rich, smell-free grounds while you sleep. (go)

  • Get Help: Pivot your career and find a career path where you can make the most of your time and skills to have a positive impact on the world using 80,000 Hours. (go)

Computers and televisions for recycling, Wandsworth, London
  • Learn about meaningful careers: People are finding meaningful work with these plethora of job boards and resources to help you spend your time meaningfully, whether you want to work on climate, health, water, sustainability, have tech skills, design skills, and more. (go)

  • Learn about electronic recycling: Don’t dump your old electronics in the trash. Plenty of stores have trade-in and recycling programs where you can even get cash or credit for bringing in old tech (go)

  • Donate to disaster relief: While you’re spending your time on a brand new meaningful career working on fixing systemic problems, people are in need right now. Find out how you can contribute to relief efforts all over the world. (go)

Captured inside a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) laboratory, this image depicted a close view of a laboratory technician in the process of pipetting a sample of vitamin E acetate, which would be used in various tests conducted upon a number of electronic cigarettes, referred to as e-cigarettes, or e-cigs, and vaping pens.
  • Learn: Lord knows we need better public health reporting. If you’re a journalist, beef up your epidemiology knowledge by taking this free course from public and global health expert, and one of our besties, Dr. Madhukar Pai. (go)

  • Donate: Elevated Access’s thoroughly vetted volunteer pilot network transports clients seeking life-saving care (like abortion or gender-affirming care) out of state. (go)

  • Volunteer: Advance the political will for regenerative agriculture and build a more equitable food system, and join your local Young Farmers Coalition chapter (go)

As per usual, everything is a lot. Keep on fighting the good fight.

Busy as hell? Us too! You can save actions for later with an WCID To Do List!

Thank you — as always — for giving a shit.

Quinn
