WCID: Jobs, rights, and infrastructure that serves everyone

Happy Hump Day, Shit Givers.

Thank you all so much for the feedback on how you’d prefer we format these newsletters!

It sounds like most of you like what we’ve been doing: organizing actions by what’s new, what’s trending, and so on. Then you’d prefer if we pair those with specific nouns (clean energy, maternal health, education, etc.) and verbs (donate, volunteer, etc.). Fewer of you cared if we organize actions by geography.

We’re taking that all in and thinking about how we can present things so you can easily find actions that include what you care about the most, but also what’s timely. More to come!

For today, we ARE going to push some location-specific actions because Virginia’s new Congress is convening today, and we’ve got 60 days to pass a ton of progressive legislation and improve a ton of lives in the process. This is the first of what we hope will be many campaigns to move the needle at the state level (and not just in Virginia).

But we have actions for everyone else this week too!

What You Can Do This Week

  • If you live in Virginia, go here

    • The Daily Newsletter for Intellectually Curious Re …

    • Everyone else start here

      Let’s go.

Virginia, it’s time to lock in

After years of boots-on-the-ground organizing, Virginia’s new Democratic-controlled Congress is being sworn in today and it’s go time.

We’ve got 60 days to pass a ton of progressive legislation that’s been on the back burner or outright vetoed for the past few years that’ll improve lives across the state. We’ve spent the last few months loading 29 of the most impactful bills that were pre-filed into our Be Heard tool, and they’re ready to go.

Start calling your reps and demand they support legislation that will address the affordability crisis, increase teacher pay, expand housing and clean energy, improve health care, lock in reproductive freedom, voting rights, and marriage equality, and more.

      Here we go!

      Support progressive legislation in Virginia

Thank you — as always — for giving a shit.

      — Willow
